August 2025 Updates
31 August 2025
As we wrap up the summer, we want to thank Sally Kaye who has finished her internship at Meisterlin Projects this month. Alongside her fantastic work on other projects, she added tremendous value to the QGIS resources available at Mapping 101 over the last several weeks.
happy GIS-ing,
Leah
Updates from the month
We’re finishing the summer’s focus on QGIS Skills Tutorials with several August additions:
New basic resources for Working with Attributes starting with Adding & Calculating Fields in an Attribute Table, Summarizing Attributes, and Table Joins.
Rounding out the starter sequence on Vector Symbology & Classification with Classifying Features by Quantitative Attribute Values and Classified Quantitative Symbology for Vector Features.
Finishing the sequence on working with Projections & Coordinate Systems with Reprojecting Spatial Data which covers the basic parameters of tools to reproject both vector and raster layers.
Completing the sequence on Queries & Selections with More about Selections—a tutorial that includes nested queries (selecting from or filtering existing selection results) as well as accessing selection tools in the Processing Toolbox—and updating the Querying by Attributes tutorial to include both the Select Features by Value tool as well as the Select Features by Expression tool.
A new, all-important tutorial for performing spatial aggregation and summarizing attributes with Spatial Joins.
Additional updates:
We’ve updated the Citing Maps & Data tutorial with additional resources and references.
We have added a new mapping-helper tutorial on Rotating a Map in ArcGIS Pro.
Forthcoming
Things to look out for in the fall start with a new series of resources on Methods & Concepts and brand new series of QGIS tutorials on Making GIS Data. We’re also working toward memberships to donate and support Mapping 101!
