September 2025 Updates
30 September 2025
Happy Fall from the Mapping 101 team. As students and teachers get back into classrooms and onto campuses, our summer frenzy of new material has slowed but not stopped. We have a handful of new tutorials added to our resources with several more planned for the coming months.
happy GIS-ing,
Leah
Updates from the month
September’s new tutorials focus on core feature and raster geoprocessing utilities and handling attributes in QGIS:
Working with attributes in QGIS: Attribute Field Properties and Calculating Geometry Attributes for Vector Features.
Some core Raster Processing tutorials in QGIS: Converting Vector Features to Rasters (with a point example) and Creating Distance Rasters an input raster layer. Together, these two tutorials demonstrate the equivalent process to creating a distance raster from point vector features (which is a standalone tool in ArcGIS Pro).
More Vector Geoprocessing: Dissolving Features in QGIS; Feature Unions in ArcGIS Pro and in QGIS; and Count Overlapping Features in ArcGIS Pro.
These new additions bring our Software Skills Tutorials total to 147 (and counting!).
Forthcoming
Things to look out for in the fall start with a new series of resources on Methods & Concepts and brand new series of QGIS tutorials on Making GIS Data. We’re also working toward memberships to donate and support Mapping 101!
