We have some exciting new additions to the site this month, as we start posting our Concepts and Methods series which is designed to support teaching and learning introductory GIS and geospatial analysis across platforms and disciplines or topics. This month, we also celebrate our 150th software skills tutorial added to Mapping 101!

Updates from the month

Concepts & Methods: We have started a new collection of posts on cartographic concepts and methods of spatial analysis. We are beginning with the basics, with much more planned to come. This month, we start with three fundamentals of Mapping Data:

• General notes on “necessary” map elements,

• Why we cite datasets and data sources, and

• Vectors & Rasters: the short version.

New Skills Tutorials: We have also added a quick geoprocessing tutorial on Clipping Features in QGIS as well as a series of four tutorials on Making Data:

• Creating New Vector Datasets in QGIS,

• Digitizing Points in QGIS,

• Digitizing Lines in QGIS, and

• Digitizing Polygons in QGIS.

Together, these bring our Software Skills Tutorials total to 152 (and counting!).
